Do I need a trust to buy a suppressor?
No. Most buyers file as individuals now that approvals are quick. A trust still makes sense if you want your spouse or adult kids to be able to use the can when you're not there, or for estate planning.
How long does approval take in 2026?
Individual eForm 4s have mostly been clearing in under a couple weeks lately. Trusts take longer. Times move around, so check the wait-times page — we keep it current and dated.
Is the tax stamp really $0 now?
Yes. The $200 transfer tax on suppressors, SBRs, SBSs, and AOWs went to zero on January 1, 2026. The Form 4 and the ATF review didn't change, just the tax.
Can I buy one in my state?
Most states, yes. California, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, and DC don't allow them, and checkout blocks those addresses. Everywhere else, you pick an SOT dealer near you at checkout and you're set.
Individual or trust — which approves faster?
Individual, usually. Every person on a trust adds fingerprints, a photo, and a background check to the application, and that adds time.
What happens after ATF approves?
Your dealer gets the approved form and calls you. Bring a government photo ID, fill out the 4473, take your can home.
How is this different from ordering off a big suppressor site?
